Actor’s Asylum Productions, with support from Beacon Theatre, proudly present Songs for a New World.  The San Diego premiere of this musical review is the first area production of any work of highly acclaimed composer, Jason Robert Brown (Parade), and has themes surrounding community, relationships and life changes.  Directed by Danny Campbell and with musical direction by G. Scott Lacy, it opens October 18th 2002 at the Actor’s Asylum Theatre, 6663 El Cajon Blvd., in the College area of San Diego.

Songs for a New World is a witty, intelligent "must" for musical theater lovers.  This San Diego premiere tells stories that are occasionally improbable, sometimes hysterical, frequently poignant, and always highly enjoyable.

Director Danny Campbell has directed numerous productions throughout San Diego and North Counties including Merrily We Roll Along (concert staging for Moonlight Stage Productions at the Avo Theater), Closer Than Ever (Poway Performing Arts Center) and Romeo and Juliet and Twelfth Night (Octad-One Productions). He was most recently seen on stage in pivotal roles with Starlight Theatre’s 1776 and Actor’s Asylum’s Lips Together, Teeth Apart.

G. Scott Lacy, Musical Director, is also returning to the stage as an actor for the first time in 8 years.  More recently he has acted as vocal coach, musical director and accompanist at such local theatres as The La Jolla Playhouse, Lamb's Players Theatre, North Coast Repertory Theatre, La Jolla Stage Company, Malashock Dance, Green Room Theatre Company, and both SDSU and UCSD’s Departments of Theatre and Dance.

Sandy Campbell, Warren Nolan and Lee Lampard all come to Songs for a New World direct from record breaking, critically acclaimed shows. Campbell was last seen in Moonlight Stage Productions’ Ragtime and Starlight Theatre’s Annie, Nolan in North Coast Repertory Theatre’s Pageant and Moonlight’s Ragtime and Lampard in Starlight Theatre’s Jekyll & Hyde and Annie.

This is the second Production of Actor's Asylum Productions in its home, Actor's Asylum (the first being Lip's Together, Teeth Apart). The majority of 2002 has been devoted to providing production and rehearsal space to burgeoning theatre companies such as Beacon Theatre, Women's Repertory Theatre, Hormonally inCorrect Productions and The Muse Theatre.

Actor's Asylum Productions will close 2002 with Robert Anderson's Silent Night Lonely Night opening December 5th.  The schedule for 2003 is being finalized and will be announced during the run of Songs for a New World.

Songs for a New World runs Friday and Saturday nights at 8pm, and Sunday at both 4pm and 7:30pm at the Actor's Asylum Theatre from October 18th through November 17th.
